Finds of the Week - Kinkei Love + Giveaway

For my Finds of the Week this week I wanted to share one of my favourite illustrators in the Verse, Kinkei  aka Kei Phillips.

Her work is so beautiful and I've been a fan for many years now. It's fun, colourful and pretty funky and when it came to finding something for Peter and my anniversary it was I wanted a one of Kinkei piece. We ended up with a stunning piece of artwork that is now proudly displayed in our living room - getting that framed was so exciting as it was like our first "us" piece if that makes sense?? It was exciting and I smile everytime I see it.

Latest Design - The Last Bit of Wedding Fever

Well sort of. I kept this one a bit quiet as I Joni and Joe have the occasional nosey over on my Facebook page and I didn't want them to see this before their wedding last Friday. So here it is, Joni & Joe's Wedding Card.

I also designed Joni and Joe's wedding invite a while back and this is what they used to create their amazing favours. I pinched a couple so I could eat one and then keep one, it's now hanging up in the office. 

I couldn't have been happier to design their wedding invites and wedding card. Knowing that I helped towards someone's special gives me a massive hit of the warm 'n' fuzzies and is definitely something I could get used to so if you have a wedding coming up or are looking for a uniquely designed card for someone you know, please don't hesitate to give me a shout!

More Wedding Finds

Yesterday we had the pleasure of watching another awesome couple get hitched, which means we're at the end of our two week wedding frenzy so I have another wedding themed Finds of the Week for you. This time however,  instead of random finds, I've picked two amazing wedding illustrators.

Jolly Edition

Jolly Edition are my newest find from a Google hunt for wedding illustrators. They're style is so unique and beautiful and my Lord the typography in the first image?! ugh, ridiculously pretty!
I love their bespoke bride and groom portraits too, they're so lovely, romantic and they just feel so warm and loving. Yup I'm in love with these guys' illustrations!

Julie Ann Art

I've been a fan of Julie Ann's work now for a while, it's totally different from anything I've ever seen. I bought one of her awesome cards for our anniversary in March for Peter and another for my brothers birthday and both of them loved their cards. Julie Ann's designs never fail to bring a smile to my face. They're quirky, funny and cute as hell! Finds of the Week - Wedding Edition

As this week and next week are all wedding crazy I thought it fitting that this weeks finds all be wedding related. This will be a real quick post as I have so much to do right now before I set off with a suited and booted Pedro  - Nice!

Finds of the Week - Fun in the Sun

So today is going to be a fun day, the sun is shining, taking Peter and is brother in law axe throwing {yes, I said axe throwing} and tonight there are rumoured plans of a wee night oot with Peter's sister while he attends a stag do. I may share some of our weekend axe throwing/partying antics next week, but for now I thought I'd share some of my favourite finds from the web. I'm feeling a theme today - the sun is shining in Glasgow right now for some "taps aff" weather so it's only right that today's theme should be summer. Enjoy!

Liz Clements' work always takes my breathe away! The way she illustrates her hair especially is just beautiful. Her work is always so full of movement and is so fluid, I love it. Love her subtle use of colour too, nice and fresh for summer palettes. -Love, love, love!

This is a sweet little print available over at Freya Illustration perfect for the summer. It's fun and so colourful it just brings a smile to my face :) Who doesn't feel like taking a little bike ride in the sun?

That's my quick summer finds for the day, now I'm off to watch the ther half throw an axe - here's hoping he hits the target! I'll leave you with a pic that I took whilst on holiday in the Canaries a few years ago - it's a go to pic when I need to image a calm and sunny place and is one of my favs.

Wedding Season

It's wedding time for me this month. No Peter and I aren't eloping, although that would be cool {only joking parentals!} We're actually going to two weddings in as many weeks, one down south in Preston and one in the lovely West End of Glasgow. Both of which I'm really excited about, not just because I love weddings and the weather will be fantastic, but I have managed to lose the weight I needed to in order to fit back in to my favourite dress *air punch*. I will post some pics of the dress soon too as it just makes me smile - I made it myself.

Anyhoo, one of Peter's many cousins is getting married on the 20th and I wanted to get my design on for it. I took some time off commissions at the weekend to get a card together for them. As far as I know no one in Peter's family reads my blog {the shame I know} so there is no way that they'll see this and I figure is safe to do a wee bit of a sneaky peek.

What do you think?  I know there isn't really much on show at the moment, but after the 20th I will be sharing pics all over the joint.

After designing my first wedding invite I was officially hooked and working with the florals and swirls is really relaxing for some reason. Especially when the weather is this good and I get to venture off to the park and sketch in the sun - much fun! So I guess a massive thanks to Joni and Joe is in order. Had you guys not asked me to design your invite, I would never have known how much fun it is to do something for a wedding.

Favourites of the Week - Design & Illustration

I think I might make a feature out of this so I can share the awesome arty things I find around the web over the course of the week. Usually there's tonnes of stuff that I find and love and have a folder full on my computer that's just there for me to ooh and ahh at. This week though I was blown away by this...

Design

This awesome Pacific Rim poster harks back to the earlier poster styles of the 40's, 50's and 60's that I love and wish more folk would do these days. It's the perfect style as it links back to old sci fi B-movies which I think works so well as Pacific Rim looks like it's going to be the most expensive B-movie of all time, and I mean that in a good way. It's going to be fun, action packed, not take itself too seriously and the fx look incredible. Yes, I love special effects and no they don't "ruin movies".

I found it over at the Poster Posse on Blurppy.com and it is designed by Richard Davies, an incredible artist who has done so many awesome poster artworks. Check out his site for more...

I've completely forgotten what article I found these on yesterday and I don't care. I'm just happy I found them. The Historical Disney Princess collection by Claire Hummel (aka Shoomlah) is beautiful especially when you discover how much of Claire's time and effort has gone in to them. My favourite has to be Tiana as I love the green, the 20's style, the dress, the movement in her pose and Tiana as a character.  If you're a Disney fan check them out, you'll love them too. Also take the time to have a nosey around Claire's website for more stunning illustration and character design.

Also a little note to Bioshock fans, Claire is also the artist behind Bisohock Infinite's concept art for Elizabeth and the Luteces - amazing!

Wonderbeasts with Johanna Basford

I love the idea of Kickstarter and the amount of things it can make possible for creative people so when it came to helping one of my favourite illustrators Johanna Basford with her Wonderbeasts project I couldn't say no.

Wonderbeasts was to be an interactive artwork where every donator picked a beastie, a bird, animal or mythical creatures and Johanna would draw it all out. I picked a lady bird and here he is being flown off by an eagle. An awesome little action shot for my little ladybird.

As a thank you to all those who took part Johanna sent out gifts which arrived the other day. I love them! Included in my lovely little packet was a print of the finished artwork, 3 postcards, 2 pin badges, a temporary tattoo and a lovely handwritten letter from Johanna as a personal thank you. The more and more donations the project got the more rewards Johanna added on, really stacking up her to do lists. 

I loved taking part in the project and think Kickstarter and crowd funding are brilliant and open so many doors to folk that want to be creative.

DaisyBisley in the Real World

Just wanted to quickly share these pics that I'm so over the moon about.

A little while ago our friends Joni and Joe asked me to design their wedding invites. Well yesterday I got an invite to their wedding and was super chuffed to see the little sticker on the envelope. Words can't express how excited I am about this so I'll just show you the pics :)

 

 

I really love the words inside too, beautifully written by Joni & Joe. "Ceremony followed by dinner, drinks and awkward but enthusiastic dancing" - just brilliant!

I'm defintely up for more invitation designs, so if you're interested give me a shout!!

Weddings, Pirates, Turtles and Tattoos!

My last few posts have been about movies I've seen in the last few months, so I thought this time I'd post about the work I've been doing. I've had a few since the beginning of the year and I hope I continue to get more. I've been thinking recently of updating the website again with a new design section. This way my work might appeal to more people wanting different types of commissions as well as tattoos which in turn will mean more design fun for me!

Last month I was over the moon to be asked to design a wedding invitation for a friend and it was great to be able to turn my hand to something a bit different. 

I loved designing these and I was so happy that Joni liked them. I'd really like to do more invitations and print based things, so I'll need to get some sample designs together.

Last year I was asked to do a different type of print based design. Katherine at The Meltemi Dive Centre in Ios, Greece got in touch and asked if I would like to design a couple of T shirts for them. I love T shirts and have quite a vast collection of them so I was really happy about getting the commission. Katherine asked for a tribal turtle and a pirate diver design for 2 shirts that would be available at the centre.  I've only just been given the go ahead to share this design in the last few weeks, which is why I'm now sharing it all over my online profiles - so happy with it!

I was so proud of these designs as they were going to be seen on a daily basis and worn by folk that visited the Dive Centre. I was so happy about this that when I got a package trough the door containing samples of the shirts I shrieked with joy - like a proper shriek!! I'm assuming the same will happen if I ever meet any of you lovely people who happen to my work inked permanently on your skin, so I apologise in advance if shriek with glee in your face!

Not only were the designs on 2 separate shirts, but also on a multitude of marketing materials. I think I might frame them! I will post a pic of all the goodies together soon.

In April I got sent this amazing pic from Marty O'Shea that his brother Dan had commissioned me to design for them last year. Marty then asked me to design another one for him. 

The design was to include the initials AMO as a symbol and we eventually came out with 2 final designs.

On a side note Marty is the Drummer for The Eternal, worth checking out some of their tunes - so good!!

My newest commission is for a lovely lady called Sarah who has been on my facebook a few times leaving comments and likes (thanks Sarah), so I was over the moon when she asked for a design.

This is just one of the first sketches I drew up for Sarah and I can't wait to work together on getting the final design. Experimenting with the infinity symbol is a lot of fun!

I would like to add a wee note to the end of this post to say thanks to everyone who has asked me to design for them and those who have gone on to use the designs or get them inked. I really appreciate the work you have given me and have taken great pleasure in creating all the designs. A wee bit mushy I know, but hey!
